Checked bags leave your sight for hours. A bluetooth tracker lets you search for the bag from your phone once you are near it. The Galaxy SmartTag2 package reviewed here includes one white tracking device from the 2023 release.
The listing states the device offers an IP67 rating for water resistance and dust protection. It also claims up to 500 days of battery power. That is a listing claim, and the listing gives no test conditions.
What the Galaxy SmartTag2 Is and How Setup Works
The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 is an item finder device designed to tag and carry your personal belongings. The retail package contains a 1 pack unit in white. The listing says the redesigned tag helps you keep calm and keep track. Setup runs through SmartThings Find on a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet.
Getting started involves registering the tag directly within SmartThings Find on a compatible device. The listing notes that registration gives travelers an intuitive tracking experience in the palm of their hand. You can place the tracker inside an interior pocket of your checked suitcase.
The listing also says the tag activates your compatible IoT devices. It does not say which devices or what they do, so treat it as a side feature.
Finding Your Luggage with Search Nearby and Compass View
Locating your bag relies on the Search Nearby feature. The listing says Search Nearby gives instructions to your item's location through Compass View. Use it once you are near the bag.
If your bag remains hidden behind other luggage, the tag can trigger an audible prompt.
The listing gives no range figure, so plan on using these tools once the bag is close.
Battery Runtime and Ingress Protection for Travel
The listing claims the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 stays powered for up to 500 days. It also claims the unit can run for up to 40 percent more time on Power Saving Mode.
These are the listing's figures, and the listing does not say what conditions they assume. Weigh them against how often you fly.
The listing says the tag is IP67-rated water- and dust-resistant. That suits a bag that may get damp in transit.
Device Compatibility and Protective Case Options
The listing explicitly states the Galaxy SmartTag2 is compatible to use with Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The product title specifies requirement details: use with phones and tablets running Android 11 or later. The listing names only Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets as compatible.
Anyone who carries an iPhone or a non-Samsung smartphone should skip the Galaxy SmartTag2 completely.
The listing also describes cases for the tag. The listing states you can cover the tag with a colorful Silicone Case for protection and smooth touch. It also describes an optional Rugged Case with a non-slip side pattern and an additional bottom bumper. Both have a carabiner ring attachment.
Which Trips It Suits and Who Should Skip It
The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 fits checked-bag flyers who already carry a Samsung Galaxy phone. Slip the tag into the suitcase before you leave. The product comes packaged as a single 1 pack unit in white. Family groups traveling with multiple bags must purchase separate individual units for each piece of luggage.
This product is not for travelers who carry non-Samsung mobile devices. It also does not serve minimalists who pack only personal items and never check bags. The verdict flips to buy if you move to a Samsung Galaxy phone on Android 11 or later. Until you do, skip it.
Check that your phone is a Galaxy running Android 11 or later. Pair the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 with SmartThings Find before leaving your house. Fasten the tag securely inside an internal luggage divider.
